Terms of use

Written to be read. Where a clause affects your money or your trip, it says so in the first sentence.

1What Transfer Travel is

Transfer Travel operates a marketplace on which people and organisations may offer existing travel bookings, or travel credit, for sale to other travellers. We are not a travel agent, a tour operator or an ATOL holder, and we do not create travel arrangements of our own.

Where a booking is transferred, the contract for the travel itself is between you and the supplier. We facilitate the change of traveller; we do not become a party to that contract.

2Listings and verification

Before a booking is published we check the seller's identity, read the original confirmation, and seek written confirmation from the supplier that the booking may be transferred and that resale is permitted. Each listing states which of these checks has been completed.

We do not publish a booking where the supplier's terms prohibit resale, even where a change of traveller name is otherwise permitted.

3Payment and holding

Payment from a buyer is taken in full at the point of purchase and is held by Transfer Travel. It is not an escrow arrangement and the funds are not held in trust by a third party.

Funds are released to the seller only after the supplier confirms the booking has been reissued in the buyer's name.

4Payouts to sellers

Sellers are paid seven days after the supplier confirms the transfer has completed. This single rule applies to every sale on the marketplace.

The payout date is shown on the listing before an offer is accepted. Where a dispute is opened, the payout is held until the dispute is resolved, and the seller is told on the day the hold is applied.

5Fees

Sellers pay 30% of the final sale price, or a different rate where agreed in writing for a specific deal, deducted from the proceeds. Buyers pay no fee. No commission is charged on voucher sales.

No fee is charged where a transfer does not complete, where a listing is withdrawn before an offer is accepted, or where a dispute is resolved in the buyer's favour.

6Refunds

A buyer is refunded everything paid to Transfer Travel where the supplier refuses to transfer the booking, where the booking materially differs from its listing, or where the seller ceases to respond before the transfer completes. Name change or transfer fees charged directly by a supplier are governed by the supplier's terms and are not refunded by Transfer Travel; any such fee, and who bears it, is shown on the listing before payment. Voucher disputes, including codes reported as invalid or partly used, are investigated with the issuer and the seller, and any refund depends on the outcome of that investigation.

No refund is available once the booking has been reissued in the buyer's name. From that point the supplier's own cancellation terms apply.

7Seller obligations

A seller must be the person named on the booking, or hold written authority from that person or organisation, and must describe the booking accurately including anything that would reasonably affect a buyer's decision.

A seller must not list a booking they know to be non-transferable, and must not sell the same booking elsewhere while it is listed here.

8Vouchers and travel credit

A voucher sale transfers a code, not a reservation. The transfer protection described in these terms does not apply. We confirm the balance with the issuer before release and refund the purchase price in full if the code is invalid or short.

9Data

We publish only a seller's first name and initial, their trading history and the details of the booking itself. Identity documents and booking confirmations are held securely, access is restricted to the team members handling the case, and they are deleted according to our published retention schedule.

10Disputes and law

Disputes are acknowledged within one working day and resolved within ten. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and nothing in them affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
